UNICEF USA’s Planned Giving Department is looking to add a new team member who will share its existing passion for UNICEF’s work and commitment to advancing legacy giving in California and select neighboring states. Reporting primarily to the Managing Director of Planned Giving, and ultimately in support of the Vice President of Planned Giving (VPPG)’s team vision, the Planned Giving Officer is responsible for the cultivation and stewardship of loyal, annual donors, ages 50 and older who reside primarily in California but also Oregon, Washington, Arizona and New Mexico. The Planned Giving Officer will be responsible for identifying legacy intentions and promoting legacy giving while also stewarding donors who have already included UNICEF USA in their estate plans. Candidate must demonstrate outstanding professionalism and discretion, strong self-motivation and proactivity, strategic thinking, organization and attention to detail, and good judgment and creativity. Writing ability is paramount. All other duties and responsibilities, as assigned by the VPPG or MD.
Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):
- Solicit and steward existing UNICEF USA donors in face-to-face meetings; requires travel primarily within the State of California with occasional trips to additional western states. Emphasis will be on the San Francisco Bay Area and Southern California (LA/San Diego)
- Work with major gift officers in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle to identify potential opportunities for joint visits and blended gifts
- Prepare gift proposals and provide additional information as needed to help secure planned gifts
- Inform and educate donors about various gift offerings that will address their philanthropic and financial goals while providing support for UNICEF
- Work with attorneys and financial advisors as needed
- Input donor contact information into the UNICEF USA database
- Secure donor testimonials for use in direct mail, UNICEF USA web pages and other marketing materials
- Under take additional special projects as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree (MA or JD) preferred
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, with at least 2 years of planned giving experience
- Strong knowledge of tax, financial and estate planning issues
- Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work remotely with limited daily supervision
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Must share a strong commitment to the mission of UNICEF USA
- Must have current driver’s license
