What We Are Looking For
The Director of Gift Planning is responsible for assisting the Assistant Vice President for Planned, Principal & Foundation Giving on programs to secure irrevocable and revocable planned gift commitments from alumni and friends of the University; cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of prospects; collaborating with other development staff members on prospects in their portfolios with interest in planned giving. This position will interact on a consistent basis with University Advancement staff, University President's Council members, Deans and faculty, alumni, donors, and donor prospects.
A Bachelor's degree, three years of related experience, and an active Christian faith are required. Five years of relevant experience is preferred. No equivalency of education and experience will be accepted in lieu of the degree requirement. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Additional requirement details:
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of experience in positions that involve planned gift fundraising, major gift fundraising work, estate planning, financial advising or wealth management. Successful candidate must have a strong Christian commitment, proven and measurable track record of making appointments with new prospects, successful face-to-face solicitation, negotiation, and closure of outright, blended and/or testamentary gifts. Successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment, organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and a professional demeanor.
Additional preferred details:
Experience in gift planning or fundraising for higher education and non-profits. Experience with creating and communicating gift illustrations and recommendations to donors. Experience making presentations to large, diverse groups. Experience working with attorneys, accountants, and other professional advisors. Preference for candidates with a law degree and/or experience in estate planning, or as a financial planner, CPA, or trust officer.
What You Will Do
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward a personal portfolio of donors and prospects with specific expertise in planned giving.
- Collaborate/assist directors of development on prospects who are interested in considering planned gift commitments. Prepare proposals and illustrations; work with donors and their professional advisors in completing and documenting planned gifts.
- Collaborate planning/implementation a planned giving marketing plan, including newsletters, direct-mail pieces, website, e-communications and planned giving seminars with AVP.
- Provide information, training, and orientation on planned giving opportunities to Advancement staff and external constituents. Assist with activities to promote the Estate Planning Network through e-communications and seminars.
- Collaborate with AVP in work with Baylor's Office of General Counsel as University Advancement's legal liaison in coordinating gift planning, gift acceptance issues and estates in probate.
- Collaborate with other University Advancement team members, other Baylor staff, and volunteers to inspire trust and encourage creative thinking, and foster cooperation to increase significantly private gifts to Baylor.
